Holme Moss Fell race 17th July 2005. Conditions hot & humid. 16 miles 4000' of climbing.
Dimelow Shot at Laddow!!
After last years Holme Moss Fell race, Mr G- rin & bear it Dimelow made an 'a la Steve Redgrave' offer that anybody could shoot him if he ever did Holme Moss Fell race again. Not wanting to miss an invitation like that a small posse of PFRAC runners made their way down the Pennine Way to Laddow rocks on Sunday armed to the teeth. The conditions were very hot and humid, and as we sat at laddow shooting cans for practice, we wondered if big G would make the showdown, or was he among the 9 that had already retired? Our doubts were soon to be answered. At 13:45 we heard his voice echo round the rocks from the valley below. 'U's up their Wraggie, I'ma cumin up'. As G approached the summit my trigger finger started to shake, would the bullets be big enough? had we brought enough? for the last few feet I warned him, 'Prepare to dance Dimelow, your time has come'.
As his head poked over the summit we let him have it all guns blazing, we continued until all the amo had gone. Much perkier than last year, G then trotted off up the valley, dripping from his water pistol ambush, but refreshed, and onto a 20minute improvement on last years time. I think next years race is August the 12th?
I'll treat him to a red grouse kit for that one, complete with feathers, and whistle which makes that familiar, get back, ge back, ge back distress call.
