YOUNG ATHLETES REPORT

Ian Charlesworth thanked all the coaches for their help.  Rachel Davis is now responsible for the Winter League results.  There are still not many u/11’s coming to training, especially girls.  The Sportshall sessions on Friday are generally attracting 15 per week and these are working towards Shine Awards.

Ian has made enquiries with the Martin Holdroyd Trust with regard to applying for a grant for more equipment.  100% grants can be given up to £200.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE REPORT

There have been several successful social evenings held with a weekend at Dent Youth Hostel.  48 attended the Christmas Disco.  It has been suggested we hold a mid-summer disco and this is being considered.  Some neighbouring Clubs have shown interest in attending some of our functions.  A pub crawl is being held in Sheffield on Saturday, 21st January and details are on the web site.  The Junior section is considering organising an event at Easter, possibly an Easter egg hunt.

The Presentation night was fixed for Wednesday, 22nd March at Penistone Football Club.

Andy Plummer thanked Sue Higham for organising these events.

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE REPORT

Andy Plummer and Martyn Cartwright explained the current situation with the proposed garage.  We currently are leasing a garage plot from Barnsley Council by the Bowling Club but no base has yet been laid.  Penistone 3-9ers have been in contact to see if we are willing to swap this for another plot on the same site so they can erect another double garage.  It was arranged that Andy, Martyn and Pauline Senior are to meet the 3-9ers at Cubley Hall on Thursday, 12th January to discuss this matter.

Nick Whittingham confirmed that we can still store our equipment at Scout Dyke.

Pauline Senior suggested we send a letter to the Football Club regarding difficulties with the access to the premises due to the gate being locked and the Club only having one key.  Martyn Cartwright agreed to send letter requesting a meeting with the Committee.

COACHING COMMITTEE REPORT

Pauline Senior suggested that we sent an official letter to Bob Schofield complaining about our dissatisfaction with the organisation of Coaching Courses.  These are often full before our members have chance to apply, mainly with students who do not stay within athletics.  This issue has been raised at South Yorkshire and North of England level.  A copy of the letter to be sent to Kristine Monoghan and Peter Moore.

SECTION SECRETARY REPORT

Road – The Club had good attendance at the Barnsley 10K and the highest number at the Travellers 6.  The Show Race has been nominated for this years South Yorkshire 10K Road Championships.

Fell – Concerns have been expressed by some of the Derbyshire Fell races that they may have difficulty organising the events due to having to have ‘competent and experienced marshals’.  A discussion was held on what the implications are for the Club.  The South Yorkshire Fell Championships is being held with the Blackamoor Chase.

Cross Country – The Championships held last Sunday at Penistone had been a great success and held without any problems. Bob Innes thanked everyone for their help.  The Club have been promoted back to the First Division.

Track and Field – The fixtures have been published.

Show Race – Will be the 2006 South Yorkshire 10K Road Race Championship.

Winter Handicap – A discussion was held on the Senior Winter Handicap.  Steve Millwood has put an article in The Hill regarding safety on the course and possible alternative routes.  There are still problems with parking at Leisure Centre.  A change in the start time was also discussed.

CLUB PURCHASES

It was agreed to purchase a new portable PA system at the last meeting.  However, with VAT and delivery, the cost will be over £200 so it was decided not to purchase one.

Ian Wragg needs to send a letter to sponsors of Show Race thanking them and explaining how profits from race are spent.  Emphasis to be placed on buying equipment for Juniors and for Coaching.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

The latest edition of the BARR magazine has an article which states that a new men’s vet 35 age category is to be introduced for the World Masters.

Ian Charlesworth and Jill Davis have finalised the Child Protection policy and circulated it for comments.  It will be put forward for adoption at the April meeting.  A new Code of Conduct for coaches, helpers, juniors and parents is to be proposed detailing their involvement with the Club.

Rotherham Harriers have recently organised a presentation by John Temperton on Club Mark, which we have to gain before we can apply for any grants.
